«Abai.institute» – On November 18, 2020, in Nur-Sultan, the web portal «Aбai.institute» was introduced within the framework of the program for teaching and promoting the Kazakh language in Kazakhstan and abroad. This is a unique project that allows our citizens, the Kazakh diaspora abroad, and foreigners to promote the Kazakh language, literature, and culture. In addition, «Abai.institute» is available on a mobile application supporting Android and iOS. The project is based on institutions like the Goethe Institute or the Pushkin Institute.

The portal is offered in 6 languages (Kazakh, English, German, French, Russian, Turkish, Persian). Currently, the number of portal users is 20,183.

Additionally, Kazakh language courses were held for the Kazakh diaspora in Russia, Turkey, France, Germany, Belgium, Iran, and Mongolia.

In 2021, within the framework of this project, advanced training courses for Kazakh language teachers were held in the USA, Russia, Turkey, France, Germany, Belgium, Iran, Mongolia, and Uzbekistan.

Furthermore, a universal publication for teaching Kazakh to the diaspora abroad was developed. For levels A1 and A2, the content of the publication was prepared in Kazakh, Russian, Turkish, and English and placed on the «Abai.institute» online platform.

Within the project, offline and online training is conducted through the opening of Kazakh language classrooms in Turkey, the USA, Russia, France, Germany, Belgium, Iran, Mongolia, and Uzbekistan.

The «Отандастар қоры» JSC plays a special role in the project, organizing work with compatriots abroad and ensuring the continuous operation of Kazakh language classrooms in the above countries.

«Tilqural.kz» – a web service for learning the Kazakh language. The site offers an online course for adults who do not know Kazakh at levels A1, A2, B1, B2, C1.

After registering, the user takes a test to determine their level of Kazakh proficiency. Based on the test results, the system recommends a course (one of the 5 levels).

The site allows users to expand their vocabulary, understand the meaning of new words and use them in daily life, read fluently, express their thoughts orally and in writing, pronounce words correctly, and construct sentences correctly.

Users can view statistics on completed lessons in their personal account.

The service is available for download on Android and iOS platforms.

«Tilmedia.kz» – Founded in 2017, the trilingual site «Tilmedia.kz» allows learning Kazakh in interesting and effective ways.

The site promotes the state, Russian, and English languages, expanding their scope and methodology. The language teaching method is based on audio and video content.

The site includes Latin and Arabic scripts.

The site consists of 5 blogs: «Information», «Watch», «Listen», «Read», «Q&A», which feature news on current issues in language policy, lessons, educational recordings, videos for children and adults, audiobooks, methodological guides, fiction and children’s literature, and more.

«Вalatili.kz» – The site is intended for children over the age of three who want to learn and develop the Kazakh language, as well as for educators, teachers, and parents. The site operates on an online platform with an intuitive search and convenient navigation system.

The site offers worksheets for children’s independent work, methodological sheets for teachers and educators, and materials for parents.

It includes materials for learning grammar and spelling, interactive alphabets and games, age-appropriate audio dictations, exercises for developing calligraphy skills, and applications. It also provides literary texts for children according to age, including interesting stories, thematic poems, interactive tongue twisters, riddles, and proverbs.

Articles by specialists on linguistic issues, scientific works, as well as teaching materials and lesson plans for kindergartens and primary school teachers, are published.

Sites aimed at improving language literacy

«Emle.kz» – The site was created to promote correct writing in Kazakh and raise public language culture. The database contains an up-to-date Kazakh orthographic dictionary, spelling rules, and scientific literature on the subject. The «Әdеби тіл нормалары» blog provides information on word formation, its relevance in literary and everyday life, rules and principles; the «Орфография» blog gives rules for correct spelling. Differences between the previous and current spelling of loanwords and terms are also comparatively presented. The «Пунктуация» blog introduces rules regarding punctuation placement; the «Аббревиатура» blog provides guidelines on abbreviations, their full names, shortening rules, and principles. The «Мақалалар» blog presents scientific articles by scholars. Readers can interact with authors, leave comments, and receive answers.

«Termincom.kz» – The site was created to continuously update the unified electronic database of terms approved by the Terminology Commission under the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan, standardize intersectoral terminology in modern science, education, technology, economy, and social fields, and improve it.

This is a tool for standardizing terminology, supplementing the terminology database, aligning terms and names with Kazakh language norms, and increasing the efficiency of term usage for the public.

The «Termincom.kz» electronic site consists of the following sections: «Approved Terms», «Term Chronology», «Existing Sectoral Terms», «Discussion», «Legal and Normative Base», «Scientific and Methodological Foundations», and «Search».

The «Approved Terms» section contains terms approved by the Republican Terminology Commission. The «Term Chronology» section provides the dates of term approval and dictionary publication.

The «Existing Sectoral Terms» section includes terminological dictionaries approved by the commission. The «Discussion» section allows readers to leave opinions on terms proposed for approval.

The «Scientific and Methodological Foundations» section offers works related to terminology creation.

«Sozdikqor.kz» – The first universal platform that allows familiarization with words and fixed expressions from various sectoral dictionaries and encyclopedias, outdated Kazakh words, loanwords, and new technological terms developed during the IT development era.

The database contains 400,000 words and 1,243,850 linguistic units.

Around 60 different sectoral dictionaries and encyclopedias have been incorporated into the portal, including the 15-volume Kazakh Literary Language Dictionary, Abai Dictionary, Ahmet Baitursynov Encyclopedia, Kazakh Synonyms Dictionary, Kazakh Phraseological Dictionary, etc.

Through the portal’s search system, users can find word definitions, synonyms, antonyms, homonyms, and frequency of words in phraseological combinations.

In 2021, the «synonymizer» function was added and is currently in testing. There is a function for pronouncing keywords.

The portal’s mobile application can be downloaded from Google Play and the App Store. The @Sozdikqor.kz Telegram bot is available.

«Qazcorpora.kz» – The corpus of Kazakh national language journalistic texts is part of the «National Spiritual Revival» project.

A corpus is an information-reference system based on the electronic collection of texts in a particular language. The main goal is to collect, standardize, systematize natural language resources, and provide results to users.

The national corpus is not only a database of integrated Kazakh language materials but also a mechanism for expanding the semantic space of the state language, its information dissemination, and access to language resources. This digitized system collects literary language style and all types of language usage at specific periods and presents them to users.

Project leader – PhD in Philology, Associate Professor N. N. Aitova; technical lead – M. Bakhytkyzy. Linguists and experts from national universities and scientific organizations participated, including:

  • Institute of Linguistics named after A. Baitursynov;

  • Al-Farabi Kazakh National University;

  • L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University;

  • Nazarbayev University;

  • Kazakh National Women’s Pedagogical University;

  • Aktobe Regional University named after K. Zhubanov;

  • Baishev University;

  • «Minialgo» LLP;

  • «Qazkitap Publishing» LLP.

The corpus includes electronic copies of articles from «Egemen Kazakhstan», «Ana Tili», «Kazakh Literature», «Turkistan», and «Zan» newspapers.

Most major world languages have their own national corpora, differing in completeness and level of scientific text processing. Notable corpora include the British National Corpus (BNC), other modern corpora, Czech National Corpus at Charles University in Prague, and the Russian National Corpus.

Capabilities of the national corpus:

  • For teaching the language as a native or foreign language;

  • For scientific study of vocabulary, grammar, and historical changes;

  • For optimized information search;

  • For large-scale material analysis, processing, and statistics;

  • For compiling dictionaries based on the corpus database.

Texts are tagged with 12–20 metadata parameters (author, topic, style, genre, type, chronotope, source, publication date, etc.). Future plans include covering additional subgenres and expanding by publication periods and sources.

Exemplary site for citizens and civil servants to fill out documents correctly

«Qujat.kz» – an electronic database providing templates and guidelines for preparing documents in Kazakh and Russian.

The site divides documentation into two types: «office» and «personnel», offering individual document templates.

Three types of document search are available: by type, by title, and alphabetically.

Over 200 document templates are available in PDF and DOC formats.

An online service allows editing of templates. Sections include «Legal Basis», «Articles», «Library», «Terms», «Q&A».

Site supporting the transition of the Kazakh language to Latin script

«Qazlatyn.kz» (portal and converter) – the main national portal supporting the transition to Latin script in the country.

The multifunctional converter allows online matching of text from Cyrillic to Latin and vice versa. The converter core (code) is hosted on the «Yandex Translator» web service, and the language «Kazakh (Latin)» has been added internationally.

Site compiling onomastic names

«Atau.kz» – an onomastics site.

The site collects names of streets, cultural and educational institutions, and various objects across Kazakhstan.

It also contains a complete list of place names and bodies of water in the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Users can learn about naming rules, normative-legal documents on onomastics, national and regional onomastic commissions, literature references, and research work.

Site informing about the implementation of state language policy

«Tilalemi.kz» – a portal featuring news on language policy implementation, articles by linguists, rules for national competitions and events, etc. The portal also contains books, multimedia programs, dictionaries, and journals.
